This program is for 3d CAD modeling of spur and helical gears. It cn be used for modeling of worm pinion used in worm gear sets.
Helical gears can be modeled in 3d CAD without special software as shown in this SolidWorks Example. However, real production gears and worms have specific geometries that cannot be easy modeled in CAD. This Excel program generated real production parts with root protuberance, lead and profile modifications.
This Excel program generates iges files of the tooth surfaces based on the basic rack - the shape of the hub that is used to generate the gear. Traditionally gear teeth are cut by a generating motion. Because of the generating motion the geometry of the cutting tool does not identically translate into the geometry of the finished tooth profile. If the edge of the cutter is a straight line the resulting tooth profile is involute. If the cutting edge of the generating tool is not a straight line the resulting tooth profile is not involute but some curve. This program can handle any geometry of the cutting edge.
This program takes 33 co-ordinates of the cutting tool edge spline, which can be any reasonable curve including a straight line. The most common input is a straight line with fillet radius on the edge of the cutting blade.
Any cutter geometry can be used for the input. The example below shows calculation of Wildhaber-Novikov gear tooth with localized tooth contact pattern.
Because of the mathematical advantage of our algorithm the program automatically provides correct geometry of the tooth root area. The program correctly calculates the root for a sharp corner of the cutting blade, for a round fillet on the edge and for any other spline that can be used as the cutter edge geometry.
Because the program calculates correct geometry of the root area the resulting CAD model of the gear tooth can be used for FEA. The program delivers the minimum radius of the curvature on the root with its radial position.
Tooth Contact Analyses (TCA) is provided for variations of the lead and profile modification.
The program generates enveloping surfaces for TCA visualization.
